Cambridgeshire Police seized the sword off of the man, who was carrying it over his shoulder.
The man has since been taken to hospital following mental health concerns.
In a post on Facebook, Policing Huntingdonshire said: "And no, this sword isn't a prop from Braveheart, it was seized after a man approached two officers with it over his shoulder in St Neots.
"The man was taken to hospital following mental health concerns."
