A motorcyclist who died a collision on a notorious Fenland road has been named.  

Alexander Paynter, 25, died at the scene of the crash along the Forty Foot Bank, near Ramsey Forty Foot, on January 8.  

An inquest into his death was opened yesterday (Thursday) at Peterborough Town Hall.  

Simon Milburn, an area coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said: “It is clear Mr Paynter died following a road traffic collision.  

“In those circumstances, I’m adjourning for a future date to be fixed.” 

A man in his 50s, from the Chatteris area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the collision.  

He has been bailed until March 27.  

Emergency services were called to the incident which happened close to the Benwick Road junction early evening at around 5:30pm.  

A grey BMW X1 travelling east collided with a red Motor Morini X-Cape 650 motorbike coming from the opposite direction.    

At the time, police issued a witness appeal for further information or dashcam footage.
