Cambridgeshire food reviewer Lucy Melton shares her thoughts on The Windmill in Somersham.

I have always been a fan of the Windmill at Somersham as they have a great set menu which offers two courses for £17 or three for £21.

This is available Tuesday - Saturday lunch time and Tuesday - Thursday evening.

It is great value for money and nice to know that you can get a decent meal for that cost, which is not very common nowadays.

On my most recent visit, I of course went for three courses as there was something I wanted for each course and so much choice for each one.

The Hunts Post: The creamed wild mushrooms served on crunchy ciabatta

They have a very classic British food menu which includes seasonal soup and homemade pie of the week- perfect for these colder months.

I started with the creamed wild mushrooms served on crunchy ciabatta which was terrific, a good portion size and it was so tasty.

I then had the scampi & chips, this tasted good, but it didn’t get served with a lemon wedge, which was really needed for that bit of extra flavour on the scampi.

The mushy peas were really good though as they had a minty taste, so they had more flavour than your average chip shop mushy peas.

I also tried a bit of the chicken, tomato & basil linguine, and it was really yummy, a great creamy sauce but with plenty of tomato and chicken so that it didn’t become too sickly.

I finished off my lunch with the chocolate & orange tart with orange sorbet which turned my tongue orange.

It was good but the tart itself needed a bit more flavour; I was expecting this to be chocolate orange, but it wasn’t (or was and I couldn’t tell).

The restaurant is a great size and can fit in larger groups easily and all the staff are really friendly.

For the price it is amazing value, really good portion sizes and great tasting food. A perfect place for a good bigger lunch or evening meal!
