Shailesh Vara, MP for North West Cambridgeshire, shares his Christmas message

The last year has been difficult for many people.

Inflation falling by a half in the past year will help but challenges with the cost of living still remain.

The effect of the war between Ukraine and Russia has been huge, especially with its impact on energy and food prices.

I very much hope that 2024 will be a year of change, a year when we can all look to a better future for ourselves and our families.

For my part, it remains an enormous privilege to be your Member of Parliament and, following the constituency boundary changes, I am sorry to be losing some electoral wards to the new Huntingdon constituency.

Namely, the wards of Sawtry, Warboys, Somersham and Holywell-cum-Needingworth.

I want to be clear however, that the changes take place at the next general election and until then I will do all I can to serve the communities in these areas.

More generally, and throughout the whole of my constituency of North West Cambridgeshire, nearly 300 square miles, I continue to help and assist the thousands of individuals who write to me, as well as working on broader issues such as getting potholes filled in, challenging banks which without good reason close the accounts of community groups or supporting local charities to secure much needed funds.

My priority for 2024 is to continue serving my local community to the best of my ability.

Christmas is a time of joy and happiness. A time for family.  As we celebrate, I hope we will take a moment to think of those who are not so fortunate.

The lonely, the sick and the vulnerable. At this special time let us truly try to share good will amongst all our neighbours.

My warmest best wishes to all of you for Christmas and the New Year.
