The Mayor of Godmanchester, Cllr Alan Hooker, shares his Christmas message for 2023

This is the time of year for happy memories of Christmas’s past for most of us, remembering the highlights and good times with our families and friends and the occasional sad time.

Each of us building on those memories as we approach Christmas, hoping we have remembered all we should have.

For the young, it’s a magical time with everything happening around them fresh and new, to be etched into the memory bank that they will take forward.

For the slightly older, new memories added to these, of the excitement of freedom, out with peers unsupervised all wanting to fit in.

Just remember, with freedom comes responsibility, it isn’t uncool to be considerate.

Then there are the young families recreating their remembered excitement for their offspring, often trying to juggle this whilst repaying the in laws for their past efforts - creating new memories.

Once the children have moved on, there is a bit more time and freedom to enjoy time with friends whilst hopefully the grand kids are still close enough to spend time with.

We are all helping to make other people’s memories which is quite a responsibility.

Let us all make sure we are helping make happy ones.

Wishing everyone everything they would wish for themselves.

Happy Christmas
