A local breastfeeding support group has marked one year of supporting local families.

Maddie’s Miracle, a dedicated charity committed to breastfeeding, infant feeding, and perinatal support, marked its first anniversary on Sunday (December 10).

In response to a desperate need from mothers and parents within the community, the support group was launched last year and has been providing invaluable support to new mothers, babies and families from Ramsey and surrounding communities.

The group hosted a one-year birthday event and welcomed the public as well as its regular attendees.

There were refreshments, raffle, toys, unique gifts on sale and an those who attended has the opportunity to meet the team, charity founders and to see the kind of service that the support group provides.

Jo Thompson, a breastfeeding counsellor and former health visitor who leads the group, commented on the group’s activities and impact.

She said: “Our Maddie’s Miracle Support Group offers more than practical information advice and guidance around the perinatal period; we are also a local resource where new parents can come together in a warm safe space, share the ‘frights and delights’ of the early days of parenting with others and create lasting friendships.”

The Maddie’s Miracle Breastfeeding Support Group is located at the Ramsey Pavilion and runs weekly on a Monday afternoon from 1pm to 2.30pm.

One woman who attends the group said: “The Maddie’s Miracle group has been invaluable to me since I've been attending. I have been going to the group most weeks and it feels so nurturing.

“Being a mum can be very lonely and isolating but having this group has helped so much. It's very friendly and gives me a focus to the week, knowing that there's a place I can go to be with other mums who understand what I'm going through.”
