Hundreds of people attended this year's St Neots Christmas lights switch-on event, which has been hailed as "bigger and better than ever".

The town's lights were switched on by Lucy Conrad after a personal invitation from the mayor.

Mayor, Councillor Rob Simonis, said: "Many thanks to the council staff, sponsors, the performers, traders and local businesses.

"We had the pleasure of Lucy Conrad switching on the lights, someone who is the life and soul of many events in the town.

"It was only fitting that she be the person who kicked off Christmas in St Neots."

Lucy's father, Chris, said: "Lucy loves St Neots because of the way that the community has accepted her and adopted her.

"As music is her main thing, the events and bands that are regularly put on by the town council mean that she is able to express herself and meet people that she ordinarily wouldn't.

"This whole community has played a part in getting Lucy to where she is now and so to be selected to turn on the Christmas lights was such an emotional huge honour."
