This December, the Cambridgeshire Volunteer Bikers will once again be riding throughout the region delivering mince pies, biscuits and treats.

The bikers will visit care home residents, nursing and residential homes, as well as several ambulance, police and fire stations over three Sundays.

The goods given out will be donated from local supermarkets including Morrisons, Tesco, Waitrose and the Co-op as well as local small businesses.

Now in its seventh year, the rides started when one of the members visited his Mum in a local care home on his return from the annual Cambridge toy run dressed as Father Christmas.

She was suffering from dementia and often did not recognise him.

Rider Andrew said: “Her eyes lit up when she saw Santa Claus was visiting her and I knew then that this was something we could do for a lot of other people suffering from similar ailments.”

The group open the rides to anyone willing to join them via their Facebook page and have been out in some very inclement weather and try to visit as many places as possible.
