The creators of an app designed to support the community in St Neots say it has been downloaded 2,000 times.

Serious About St Neots was launched in the summer and offers a range of features, including listings of community events and a loyalty scheme with independent businesses.

St Neots duo Gary Lee and Mark Hansard are best known for being compéres at community events such as the Christmas Lights Switch On, Armed Forces Day and The Dragon Boat Race.

They felt there was potential for the town to have its own dedicated app to support businesses, community groups and other organisations.

And five months since its launch, they say their not-for-profit venture “is going better than expected”.

Gary said: “We're serious about town and we know from the incredible range of groups and individuals making a difference that we're not the only ones.

“We saw the name 'Serious About St Neots' as a way of creating a positive identity for the town.

“Every other town, is 'love' this or 'local' that.

“It's time for St Neots and the amazing people that live here to have their own identity.”

The app can be downloaded for free on IOS and Android.

Listings for businesses and events are also free.

Mark added: “It's not just about listings.

“There will be creative elements such as podcasts, videos and even live streams.

“Plus with the growing number of users we can provide an effective voice for the community with features such as opinion polls.

“We have put this together to be used a way of connecting the town up.'

The app also features information on local businesses for those with specific accessibility needs and anyone who needs mental health support.
