Huntingdon Drama Club return with the Olivier award-winning comedy Nell Gwynn by Jessica Swale.
This funny and hugely entertaining play runs at the Commemoration Hall, Huntingdon from November 22-25.
The action takes place in the 1660s where Charles II has returned from exile and is restored to the throne after the puritan rule of Oliver Cromwell.
The 'merry monarch' re-opens the theatres and decrees that women are to be allowed to perform on stage.
Enter our heroine, the poor orange-seller Nell Gwynn, who under the tutelage of the King's Company becomes a star of London theatre.
Praised by none other than Samuel Pepys for her comic performances she soon catches the eye of the King himself and becomes his most famous mistress.
Nell Gwynn is directed by drama club chairman Dean Laccohee and features a cast of 18 actors, some making their debut appearance for the group.
