Three red flood warnings have been issued in Cambridgeshire in the aftermath of Storm Babet.  

The situation at Alconbury Brook at Hamerton, The Alconburys, Little Stukeley and Brampton was upgraded overnight and flooding is now expected.

The Environment Agency says: "River levels are beginning to fall after the rainfall yesterday. Flooding remains possible over the course of today...

"... If you have property level resilience, you are advised to install it now. Further showers are possible over the next 24 hours which could see river levels remain high.

"Take care on riverside roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger.

"We are monitoring the situation."

Red flood warnings are still in place at Bury Brook at Kings Ripton, Broughton, Wistow, Bury and Ramsey as well as Parsons Drove in St Ives. 

Areas most at risk around Bury Brook are: Ramsey Road in Kings Ripton, Bridge Road, Causeway Road, Bull Lane and Illings Lane in Broughton, Manor Street, Pipkins Close and Bridge Street in Wistow, Brookfield Way and High Street in Bury and High Street, Crown Mews and Hollow Lane in Ramsey. 

Areas most at risk in St Ives are: Harding Way, Nursery Gardens, Russet Close, Bramley Road, Elsworth Close, Rookery Close, Sheepfold, Great Fathing Close, Little Fathing Close, Fathing Lane, Brookway, Willow Way, Abbey Retail Park, Parson Green and Parsons Drove.      

In these situations, residents are advised to take steps such as move vehicles to higher ground, take family and pets to safety and move important items upstairs.  

Gas, electricity and water supplies should also be turned off.  

Residents are also advised to pack a bag, including medication and insurance documents, in case they need to leave their property.  

Meanwhile less urgent flood alerts continue to be issued across Cambridgeshire.

  • Bin Brook near Cambridge. 
  • Bourne Brook between Caxton and Comberton, near Cambridge. 
  • Cottenham Lode includes Oakington Brook, Wash Pit Brook and Beck Brook. Area covers Northstowe, Bar Hill, Oakington and parts of Landbeach. 
  • Ellington Brook at Spaldwick, Ellington and Brampton. 
  • River Great Ouse from Brampton to Earith, including Back Brook, Hall Green. Brook, Parsons Drove Drain, Swavesey Drain and Wadsbys Folly. 
  • River Kennett near Isleham.
  • River Kym and River Til near St Neots.
  • Middle Level, including Pondersbridge, Ramsey St Mary's, Benwick and Welney.
  • River Rhee from Guilden Morden to Haslingfield.

In these areas, residents are being urged to prepare for flooding and avoid using low lying footpaths or to enter areas prone to flooding.  

“Start acting on your flood plan if you have one,” the flood alerts and warnings website advises.    

Residents should also sign up for flood alerts and pack a bag containing medicines and insurance documents.
