St Neots Labour Party has chosen Zofia Lumley as their candidate for the Eaton Ford ward at the St Neots Town Council election on October 12.

The party says Zofia ran an active campaign in the August by-election, securing second place, showing that Labour is "a credible alternative locally".

Zofia has lived in the Eaton Ford for more than 20 years with her husband and black and white cat.

Zofia works for Cambridgeshire County Council in the technology enabled care service. She also is well known in the area as a support worker and respite carer for adults with learning difficulties.

Zofia says: "I love living in the town. I really support and enjoy the community events in the town like bands in the park and food festivals.

"The importance of such events for community spirit and well-being should not be underestimated. I want to work with local groups to ensure all residents are included in activities especially those with disabilities and requiring care."

Adding: "I believe that the best is achieved on a town council by working with colleagues on other authorities and with the mayor.

"Labour councillors on Huntingdonshire District Council and CCC have shown how this can be achieved.

"The support for public transport in St Neots from the Labour mayor Dr Nik Johnson is an example of this.

"I also welcome the proposed reduction of council tax burden on the very poorest by Labour councillors at HDC.

"Co-ordinated activity is the only way to retain and improve the town centre. An example of this is HDC is now organising the weekly market in the town."

Zofia concluded: "The cost-of-living crisis, the scandal of NHS waiting lists, the delays at our surgeries, and the continued impact of higher mortgages and rents means people require a voice and support at a local level. I would like to be that voice."

The election will take place on October 12.
