Liam Conway, a Huntingdon-based Cambridge & Coleridge athlete, was recently presented with a new pair of running shoes in recognition of his achievements by an England Athletics coach.

Conway has enjoyed an exceptional year, boosting his status nationally as a runner and triathlete.

English Athletics running coach Eric Winstone said: "I am delighted to support Liam, he has tremendous all-round ability and an excellent attitude to improve on what are already national standard performances."

Winstone became aware of Conway when working with the youngster's mother at Bushfield Academy in Peterborough.

His year started with a 6th place finish in the English Schools Cross Country Championship, where he qualified for an international cross country race at Sefton Park in Liverpool, where he came home 13th.

Conway, a student at Hinchingbrooke School, had an excellent track season which began in Watford, where he ran 3,000m in 8.37.9, placing him as the 7th quickest British under 17.

And, this summer, he won the English Schools 3,000m final, leading to him representing England in an international event at Grangemouth.

He is also part of the 'Performance Assessment' group for British Triathlon, which will lead to him being part of the 'next generation' project that British Triathlon runs to find and support the up-and-coming juniors.

Conway is a huge fan of British International Triathlete Alex Yee and will one day decide which route to take as he develops his running and triathlon skills, but for now, he is extremely focused on simply enjoying racing and training and being the best that he can be
