Guy Jolly's hunt for a first major championship was abruptly ended after a coming together during the V8 Hotstox World Final dashed his World Title aspirations.
The Huntingdon racer headed into the World Championships at Mildenhall on September 2 in fourth position on the starting grid out of 31 drivers, and he made a promising start as the green flag dropped.
Guy raced into third place through the first turn, and almost into second as he went through the gears.
However, disaster struck on the next corner when New Zealander NZ1 Asher Rees tangled up with Guy, turning his vehicle in the middle of the track.
Unable to readjust, the oncoming pack crashed into the drivers, resulting in a multi-car pile-up, with Guy's car unable to continue due to a broken front steering arm and wheel damage.

The drama continued throughout the race, with only 12 competitors finishing and seeing the chequered flag as teenage sensation Thomas Brighton from Yorkshire took the World Title.
Guy thanked his team, family, and sponsors for this year's efforts and support in what was an unfortunate end for the experienced racer, who was arguably enjoying his best season ever on tarmac.
He'll have no time to rest though, as next year's World Qualifying Series kicks off on September 13 at Arlington Raceway Eastbourne.
