A spokesperson for Hinchingbrooke School said the pupils should be congratulated on their resilience and hard work in the run-up to the examinations, "which has clearly paid dividends despite the change to the results nationally".

More than 10 per cent of the cohort attained an average grade of at least an 8 in their 10 or 11 qualifications, which was described as a "fabulous achievement".

Many students had to combat difficult personal circumstances but were still able to attain "amazing" results, which the school credits to their attitude to learning and support from their "fantastic" staff.
