Developers hoping to build a new business park next to the A14 have launched an appeal after Huntingdonshire District Council did not make a decision on the proposals.

Buckden Land Ltd originally asked for permission to build 15 new business units on land off Buckden Road, south of Brampton.

If the plans are approved, the buildings could be used for storage or distribution centres, or for other business and general industrial uses.

The national planning inspectorate will now decide whether the development can go ahead after the appeal was submitted due to non-determination.

In the developer’s appeal statement, they said the application was in the “process of being resolved”, but hit issues due to the district council not accepting amendments.

They said: “The proposed development will provide a high quality, much needed industrial estate within a built-up area.

“It can be accommodated satisfactorily on the site without detriment to amenity or the character of the area and is well located for accessibility by local employees and for deliveries to and from the wider region.

“The application is supported by a supply and demand assessment, which demonstrates the need for the development.

“The application was in the process of being resolved, but has unfortunately been subject to the local planning authority’s policy of not accepting amendments, nor is the council ready to issue its decision.

“The application represents sustainable development that supports growth and activity.”

Comments and statements from interested parties are due to be sent to the planning inspector by August 7, after which a hearing is planned to take place.

Following this, the planning inspector will then be expected to release its decision on whether the development can go ahead.

The district council has been approached for comment.
