A mum is organising a charity fundraising weekend over the August bank holiday in memory of her son.

Anna Leaver tragically lost her son Darren Green in a motorbike accident in May of last year.

But this summer, she will be bravely organising an event to commemorate his legacy and raise funds for the mental health charity Mind.

It will take place over August 26 and 27 in Ramsey Heights, near Huntingdon.

Anna said: “It's still very difficult for me to talk about Darren.

“But I want something good to come out of our tragic loss, and I know he would’ve wanted that too.

“So I’m organising this for Mind because mental health is an issue that affects so many people.

“It will be our first ever event. If it’s a success and raises lots of money, I would love to put on another one next year.”

There will be fun activities for all ages and an Elvis impersonator. Food and drinks will be available.

Visitors can also camp overnight if they wish in return for a donation to the good cause.

Anna added: “Darren loved Elvis from when he was a four-year-old – so it seemed the most fitting choice for the event’s entertainment.”

The fundraising is already underway, thanks to a sponsored walk carried out by friends of the family.

Sammy Hart’s two children, Isobella Lewis and her brother Samuel, have been walking an average of a mile a day for 30 days.

The youngsters began their challenge on June 23 the anniversary of Darren’s funeral.

And Isobella, 10, and Samuel, 5, have raised almost £400 to date, smashing their £250 target.

Sammy, from Whittlesey, said: “I’m incredibly proud of them both and they are really pleased to have raised so much money for charity.”
