A public meetings is being held in St Neots today (July 20) to give people the opportunity to find out more about the East West Rail project.

Various sessions have been held in Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire in recent weeks aimed at providing updates on the project and giving members of the public the chance to ask questions.

The St Neots event is being held at Love's Farm House, in Kester Way, St Neots, from 2pm - 8pm.

The East West Rail project will see new train services connecting Oxford, Milton Keynes and Cambridge.

Those behind the scheme say it will "unlock the area’s potential to create jobs, grow the economy and attract investment".

"Our proposals will slash journey times across the region, create new opportunities for people to access jobs, green spaces and enjoy everything the area has to offer,"said a spokesperson for East West Rail.

Alongside this, EWR has also launched a Need to Sell scheme, which sets out support available for those property owners potentially impacted by the EWR plans and there has been much anger about this, particularly in neighbouring Bedfordshire.

There has been strong opposition to the plans from those who will lose their homes to make way for the track and those who could be affected by some of the infrastructure, including huge viaducts in St Neots.
