Following in the giant footsteps of 2022's Dino Day in Huntingdon that saw a record breaking 40,000 visit the town centre, this weekend will see Pirates' Day!
Most businesses posted an uplift in sales and footfall last year and organisers Bid Huntingdon is hoping to replicate the success with this year's event.
Much like Dino Day the event will be spread around the town, prompting visitors to explore the town and participate in pirate-themed events.
“Following the huge success of last year's Dino Day, we’re incredibly proud to be hosting this summer event. It will run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday, July 8, said BID Huntingdon manager Paul Sweeney.
"Visitors can expect all manner of pirate-themed chaos from the live pirate show on the Market Square to the roaming mad pirate!
"With most of the interactive elements being free for everyone to take part. There will also be competitions and give-aways galore to make sure that Pirate Day 2023 goes down in the history books.
Lead by a 30-mintue live Pirate show on the Market Square (on the hour from 11am) new town mayor, Cllr Philip Pearce, will be held in a jail cell outside Sainsburys whilst raising money for his charities.
There will also be a 17-piece sailor band in Chequers Court, a town trail from St Benedict's Court up to Cambs Lock.
Activities continue along Chequers Court and up toward the bus station, with a mad pirate roaming the streets as well as the friendly face of Pirate Captain BID Bear in his specially commisioned outfit for the day.
Visitors can also take part in a competition to win a huge Lego pirate set.
A spokesperson for BID said: "All this, plus games, stalls, fancy dress, competitions, trails and more to keep visitors to Huntingdon occupied whilst shopping.
"Don't miss this chance to get involved, no matter how big or small we hope that our community remember these days for years to come and shops will dres their front windows; encourage staff to dress up, engage customers with competitions or hand outs to promote business and put on a special promotion for the day."
