Students at Sawtry Village Academy have taken part in an extended art project creating posters to highlight endangered, threatened and at-risk animals.
‘Don’t let the Rhinos end up like the Dinos’ was the message on a poster by Charlie Maidment, a year seven student.
Charlie’s poster came runner up along with nine other students as voted by Sawtry Village Academy staff.
A spokesperson for Sawtry Village Academy said: “More than 100 year seven students created some brilliant posters in a competition which was part of their art course.
“These posters informed of the plight of animals under threat in the wild.”
The overall winners were Kayla Housden and Ruby Thomas who will receive art prizes from Sawtry Village Academy's art department. Their posters will now be on display at Hamerton Zoo Park.
The runners-up along with Kayla and Ruby were treated to an afternoon at the zoo where they met zookeeper Ben who gave them a guided tour.
Ben also explained further about the threatened animals and how the zoo has been playing a vital role in animal conservation since 1990 and still continues to do so to this day.
All the posters that were entered into the school's competition, including the runners-up, will now be displayed at Huntingdon and Sawtry Library for the public to enjoy.
The Sawtry Villlage Academt spokesperson added: “The whole project has been very successful in raising the awareness of the threats to animals.”
