A pressure group demanding 'an NHS dentist for everyone' has been invited to participate in a round-table discussion at the Houses of Parliament.

Toothless in England will attend the Health and Social Care Committee's inquiry into NHS dentistry on June 7.

The Committee received written evidence from Toothless, including the from Toothless in Huntingdon, earlier in the year but originally did not extend them an invitation to take part in the oral evidence sessions due to limited space available.

However, pressure from the campaign group has now led to an invitation.

Toothless in Huntingdon founder Simon Brignell said: "The inquiry into NHS dentistry has been a long time coming, and we are of course grateful for the opportunity to take the stories and experiences of local patients directly to the Select Committee in Westminster.

"But what we really need is firm and decisive action from the government, and I hope that this roundtable discussion is what will spur them into taking it sooner rather than later.

"There are thousands of people in the area struggling to access NHS dentistry, and unfortunately, their dental problems cannot wait."

The Health and Social Care Committee launched the inquiry into dentistry on December 8 following a survey that showed 90 per cent of practices across the UK were not accepting new adult NHS patients.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: "We're pleased that the Inquiry Team has seen sense in giving us an opportunity to look them in the eye.

"In spite of the noise made by the self-interests of well-established dentistry organisations, Toothless in England is steadfast in making sure that patient voices are heard.

"Everyone should have ready access to NHS dentistry.

"At the end of the day, it's patients who are ultimately suffering through this dental crisis, a crisis that's been created in Westminster which can only be resolved in Westminster.

"We welcome the opportunity to participate in this Inquiry, and our campaign will continue in the hope that the government will finally listen and act."
