Bill Hensley, station manager at Huntingdon Community Radio, writes about the station's charity work this month.

Your local radio station reaches out every month to local groups and charities.

We have chosen Huntingdon Community Cancer Network (HCCN) as our Charity of the Month for June.

HCCN exists to transform the quality of life of those living with a cancer diagnosis in the Huntingdonshire area by providing regular, evidence-based activities that promote healthy eating, physical exercise and mental well being.

On Wednesday, June 7, our Over to You programme is due to welcome Lewis Coupar, the charity’s fund raising manager into the studio to talk to presenter Norman Knapper about the vital work of HCCN.

If by the time you read this piece the programme has already been broadcast and you missed it, you can listen again by going to our website at: www.hcrfm.co.uk/on-air/listen-again.

To find out more about the charity give them a ring on 01480 416410 or visit their website at: www.hccnthecharity.org/ or the charity’s Facebook page.

Since the very start of HCR104fm we have been keen to encourage all genres of music on the station. Our daytime programming features what we call ‘quality/familiar’ music but during the evening and weekends, our evening shows from 8pm cover a wide diversity of music genres with most listeners’ tastes catered for.

Soul, Motown, country, rock 'n' roll, ‘soft’ rock, eighties, classical, jazz and easy listening are all there to be found in our schedule of shows.

There’s also a music ‘time machine’ in the form of Bob Elliot’s Retro Show every Saturday at 1pm, when you will be transported back in time to the charts of yesteryear. Nostalgia at its best.

Thank you as always for listening and supporting your local radio station.
