The idyllic Island Hall in Godmanchester is opening its doors to the public for what is now its 29th charity event as part of this year's National Gardens Scheme.

The 2023 will support Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Hospice UK, Carers Trust, The Queen’s Nursing Institute, Perennial and Parkinson’s UK.

The river is a major feature at Island Hall contributing greatly to the tranquillity of the garden.

From the River Great Ouse, the Saxons built a mill race which now encloses the island, reached by an ornamental Chinese-style wooden bridge.

Visitors can happily spend an afternoon wandering through the garden, soaking up the atmosphere, but there is much to see, from wild flowers to the 18th century-style garden recreated in the eighties.

Also enjoy free entry to the courtyard plant sale by the Godmanchester Community Nursery.

The garden, but not the house, is open on Sunday, May 28, from 10.30am – 4.30pm and the cost is £5 for adults, accompanied children free (pay at gate, contactless option available).

Home baked cakes, coffee and tea will also be available in aid of St Mary's the Virgin Church, in Godmanchester.
