A secondary school in St Neots was evacuated yesterday (Tuesday, May 23) following a ‘small, isolated fire’.

The fire broke out at Ernulf Academy. Cambridgeshire Police and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service were not involved.

A spokesperson for Ernulf Academy said: “Earlier today [yesterday] we had a small, isolated fire which was extinguished quickly.

“All staff responded as they have been trained to do and supported our pupils to evacuate the building calmly and in an orderly way via the nearest exits in line with our fire evacuation plan, and as practiced in our fire drills.”

The spokesperson added that as a precautionary measure, the area of the school site was closed whilst the building was adequately ventilated.

“We contacted all parents to let them know what had happened and to reassure them of the swift action that was taken,” they added.
