More than 50 Sawtry residents volunteered to help out within the village as part of The Big Help Out.

After breakfast, teas and coffees, which helped to bring the community together to socialise, work then got underway just before 10am.

Activities included litter picking, cleaning the inside of All Saints Church, groundworks to the outside with many new plants and flowers planted, sign cleaning and fence painting at local clubs.

The Sawtry Litter Pickers also joined the event and paved the way to a cleaner, greener Sawtry.

The day concluded with an award presentation, giving recognition to those who go the extra mile for the community.

One of the organisers, Tom Gosling, said: "It was amazing to see so many people join together, socialise and get jobs done.

"The feedback from the volunteers was brilliant, with many looking to continue volunteer work within the village, creating larger social circles whilst maintaining our local facilities and green spaces.

"We have some true heroes among our community who deserve of a thank you for the time and effort they put in to this community."
