A Huntingdonshire care home resident celebrated turning 106-years-old with at a party attended by friends and relatives.
Ruby Litchfield, from St Neots, blew out her candles at the party held for her at Anchor’s Nelson Lodge, Nelson Road, Eaton Socon, where she has lived for the past two and half years.
Mrs Litchfield, who has one son, Barrie, three grandsons and five great-grandchildren, was born in Flitwick, Bedfordshire and moved to a flat in St Neots in 1980.
Before she retired, Ruby worked as a trimmer in a hat factory.
On Friday May 13, she received many cards of congratulations from the local community and enjoyed a visit from the local children's choir at Bushmead Primary School in Eaton Socon who also visited Ruby on her 105th birthday.
They sang a selection of songs - including 'Happy Birthday' and Ruby's favourite song, 'We'll Meet Again' by Vera Lynn - and enjoyed celebrations with Ruby’s family and the team at Anchor’s Nelson Lodge.
Ruby's family say that her secret to a long life includes taking her own daily exercise regime and touching her toes until she was 100, eating a healthy diet with no junk food, and only having a glass of Port and lemonade with Sunday dinner.
They added that her life motto has always been "be happy and don’t worry about a thing".
Care home manager Jeanette Whitbread said: "Ruby astounds me every day.
"Her spirit and zest for life, along with her smile.
"We love listening to her play the piano and she is great company for the residents she lives with at Nelson Lodge."
