An inquest has opened into the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car in Eaton Ford last month.

Jonathan Mills, 40, was crossing the B1428 St Neots Road, at around 9pm on April 19 when he was struck by a white Skoda Octavia outside Eaton Plaice.

The hearing heard the car was travelling towards St Neots town centre.

David Heming, a senior coroner for Cambridgshire, opened the inquest at Lawrence Court, in Princes Street, Huntingdon, earlier today (May 11).

He said: “Sadly, the pedestrian, so here Mr Mills, suffered injuries that were not survivable and died at the scene.”

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving and has been bailed until July 19.

Later in the hearing, Mr Heming suspended the coronial investigation “given there are ongoing investigations concerning the circumstances of the accident”.

“I express my sincerest condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased,” he said.

Police launched an appeal for witnesses after the incident, asking anyone with information to contact them quoting reference number 521 of April 19.
