An artist from Huntingdonshire who moved to the county as a military family last year has been painting pictures of local towns and villages to "celebrate my new home".

Anna Anderson said it all began with house portraits, which she paints as bespoke commissions.

"I love painting architecture in a playful illustrative way, I tend not to use a ruler and I enjoy using a bright vibrant palette," she said.

"I also love incorporating tiny birds on rooftops and TV aerials and these tiny details have become a feature of my work."

This passion led to Anna painting St Ives Quay as she "thought it would translate beautifully in my style.

"I love its old-world charm, the river and the bridges and its many interesting buildings."

After the painting received positive feedback on social media, Anna was "delighted" that the original found its home with a local family who are relocating.

Since then, Anna has been visiting towns and villages in the region (Godmanchester, Houghton, Ramsey, and Huntingdon amongst some of them) making sketches and taking photos for her new project.

"I’m so excited about the colourful results," she said.

"The wonderful thing about my paintings is that flowers can bloom even in the winter."

Having only lived in Cambridgeshire for a short period of time, she added: "I feel as though the community has welcomed me with open arms.

"The project has given me a sense of belonging, and I have learned so much about my local area as a consequence.

"I feel very lucky that there are still so many picturesque towns and villages to paint!"
