A farmer and her team have transformed a former Fenstanton bakery into an independent cafe that prides itself on "rustic yet stylish" homegrown food.

No stranger to food, and drawing upon her pig farming roots in Yorkshire, Charlie McLaughlin has been established ever since 2011 when she first started creating hog roasts and wedding sharing banquets.

Now, she's home cooking in her new High Street cafe, Little Piggy, which opened its doors in February after a full six-month renovation of the commercial kitchen and shopfront.

Although the cafe has only been open for two months, the team say they have been very busy.

"The first two weeks, especially, were crazy, and everyone's said it's great that we're here," Charlie's daughter Charlotte said.

Something that makes Little Piggy stand out is that everything is made on the premises - even the pastry - while all the meat comes from  owner Charlie's family farm in Yorkshire.

As well as selling pastries, cakes and bread that are made from scratch in house, the carrot cake is made from Charlie’s family recipe.

"We do not like buying anything in, so it's all done in kitchen and the chefs are amazing," Charlotte added.

The fact that Little Piggy is also "female-first" is "very ingrained in our DNA", she said, adding that the company's wedding and events coordinator is a woman, as is their HR, and the chefs in the kitchen.

Having recently hosted a BBQ tasting evening and pop-up tapas night, there are plans to organise more of these as well as using the cafe as a base for wedding tastings and developing new menus.

The plan is, over time, to get bigger and open more branches, she added.

Camilla, sales and marketing manager, said: "Little Piggy can cater for all needs and prides itself on being an unpretentious foodie, a cafe of choice that will have you leaving with a smile on your face and a full belly alongside a delicious memory.

"So next time you fancy trying something delicious to eat, alongside a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, pop along to Little Piggy Kitchen.

"We promise you won't leave disappointed."
