The body of a woman was found in a sheltered housing flat, and neighbours believe it lay undiscovered for at least eight weeks.

The woman was a tenant at the Mill House retirement housing complex in Ramsey.

A police spokesperson said officers were called to reports of a sudden death in Silver Street just before 4pm on Thursday, March 9.

“The death of the woman is not being treated as suspicious and has been handed to the coroner,” he said.

Chorus Homes, which is part of Places for People, run the Mill House sheltered accommodation.

Websites say the facility has 30 studio and one-bedroom flats for the over 55s.

They were built in the 1970s, and have lift-access, a lounge, laundry facilities and a garden.

The online description also explains the flats are looked after by “non-resident management staff”.

A spokesperson for Places for People said the company has sent its condolences to their late “customer’s family for their loss”.

It also clarified residents can call a 24/7 helpline or the regional team staff members.

The spokesperson said: “We have shared directly our sincere condolences with our customer’s family for their loss.

“We acted as soon as a concern was raised, and the proper authorities are now undertaking their checks into the circumstances of this tragic matter.”

She added: “Mill House is an independent living facility.

"This means support options available for customers to access include 24/7 helpline, direct telephone access to their regional team and the option to attend a weekly residents’ meeting.

“We will work closely with our customers to address any concerns they may have and look forward to speaking to them at our next weekly meeting.”
