A sportsman's night in St Neots which featured former Tottenham and England footballer Gary Mabbutt and comedian Martin Gold has raised thousands of pounds for charity.

The Rotary Club of St Neots St Marys recently held their 33rd Sportsman's Night at the Priory Centre on March 9, raising nearly £9,000.

More than 270 attendees and local businesses were treated to tales from guest speaker Gary who was supported by comedian Martin Gold with some quick-fire wit and entertaining jokes.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club said: "Gary entertained the audience, which contained many Spurs supporters, with his stories playing with Paul' Gazza' Gascoigne, Glen Hoddle, and Gary Lineker, amongst others.

In his sixteen-year career with Spurs, Gary made 477 appearances for the club as a versatile defender and also managed 16 appearances for the national team.

The spokesperson added: "As always, those present were very generous in their support of the evening.
