A major resurfacing project is due to take place in the centre of Huntingdon.

This will affect the B1514 which is on of the main approach roads into the town and runs along Main Street and Longstaff Way in Hartford.

The work, which is being carried out by Cambrideshire Highways, is scheduled to start on Monday, March 6. and run until the early hours of Saturday, March 11 and is subject to favourable weather conditions.

The Highways department has said the work will take place overnight between 9pm and 6am and diversion routes will be put in place.

In a letter sent out to households in the area, Cambridgeshire County Council has explained that two lengths of the ring-road will be resurfaced.

These are: St John's Street, from the junction with George Street to Great Northern Street, and Nursery Road, the section which forms the approach to the traffic signals at the Riverside.

The B1514 between George Street and Great Northern Street will also be closed to through traffic during the work on St John's Street. Access will be maintained for residents, carers and business owners within the closure area.

The letter went on to say: "At times there may be delays in allowing this [accsess] depending on what activity is being undertaken in the resurfacing process. These traffic movements will be controlled by traffic management operatives using vehicles to escort drivers through the work."

Drivers will still have access to the ring-road from roads beyond Great Northern Streetand also exit the High Street and George Street.

While the work is ongoing, drivers are asked not to park on the roads concerned as if the vehicles hinder progress they could be towed away and the owner will be expected to foot the bill for this.

Homes within the restricted area have also been asked not to arrange deliveries of food or other goods.

"The work will generate noise and we apologisein advance for this, but it is inevitable with this type of work, and we will do all we can to keep this to a minimum," the letter warned residents.
