The close personal friends of a "well-known" St Ives local, Kevin Murray, have handed over a cheque worth £2,080 to the Huntingdon MIND charity shop in his memory.

John Tompkins organised a Charity Soul, Motown and Northern Soul event on December 3 at the St Ives Corn Exchange to raise money for MIND, which Kevin's family picked as the chosen charity.

Local DJs and friends Max Rees, John (Jinksy) Drinkwater and John Wilson provided their services at the event, which was "packed to the rafters", ensuring the dance floor was full and bouncing all night.

Corn Exchange Manager Kate Holley said, "The night was amazing; it was a complete sell-out, we could have sold loads more tickets.

"People came from all over to support the event; it was a huge success."

A raffle was also held during the memorial event by Baz Chopethelot, which raised £230 towards the final figure, and the Disco equipment for the night was loaned free of charge by Terry Jones of Jester promotions.

John added what a "fabulous" night it turned out to be and handed over the cheque to the manager of MIND in Huntingdon, Sue Reeves, on February 1.

Following the success of the evening, the organisers are considering another similar event in the Winter.
