Members of Animal Rebellion are calling on Cambridgeshire Police to "free" the two beagles from Police care by demonstrating outside the Constabulary's headquarters in Huntingdon.

More than 60 members of the animal rights group and members of the public gathered today December 22) with signs, banners and their own furry companions.

The group are asking the force to release the beagles, named Love and Liberty, in person so that they can be taken to pre-arranged sanctuaries.

Demonstrators have been blocking the roads to force negotiations and protesting outside of the Police reception.

A spokesperson for Animal Rebellion said on Facebook: "Negotiations with the Police are ongoing, and the Police have called for someone more senior to come and talk with us.

"In the spirit of negotiation and allowing for conversation to happen, we have moved off the road for now in order to not block access to the station.

"However, we are not afraid to continue disruption until Love and Libby are released into safe and loving hands."

Police intercepted the two beagles following an incident at MBR Acres in Sawtry Way, Wyton, on December 20, where 18 beagle puppies were taken after a break-in from the animal testing breeding facility.

Fourteen people were arrested in connection with the incident and released on conditional bail, whilst the 18 other dogs have not yet been recovered.

Animal Rebellion said the demonstration would be a show of the "love and peace" the puppies can have if they are handed over to them.

A spokesperson for the Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: "Two dogs remain in our care following the break-in at MBR Acres.

"We recognise the strong feelings this issue raises in many people, and we are in contact with MBR, as the legal owners of the dogs, to discuss the next steps.

"We will release more information once these discussions have concluded."

Popstar Will Young, who handcuffed himself to the gates of MBR Acres in support of 'Camp Beagle' in November 2021, has spoken publicly, calling for the freedom of Love and Libby.

Will said: "I don’t condone illegal activity, however, these dogs need to avoid being returned to being tested on or put down."
