The St Neots Man Cave opened its doors for a launch event on Sunday, October 9 and wants to extend a welcome to men in the area to join them.

Attendance at the launch event was said to be "absolutely phenomenal", according to managing director Shey Crompton.

"We wanted to open the doors so that people can come in, have a look around and talk to us about what they could see themselves doing in the space. We were delighted to have so many dignitaries turn up, along with the family of Steve van de Kerkhove, who the building was named after."

Steve van de Kerkhove was a councillor in St Neots who died at the age of 44 in January 2016 after he was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. He was a town, district and county councillor and has been described as a “champion for St Neots”.

He left a lasting impact on the town and Cllr Stephen Ferguson, Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council, referred to him as an "instigator of the independent revolution in Huntingdonshire" on Twitter and was moved to have been there at the opening of the community space.

St Neots Mayor, Cllr Ben Pitt officially opened the building with words recognising the work needed to support people’s mental health in St Neots, which was backed up by Shey Crompton when opening the Man Cave at the same time.

Visitors came from other local Men’s Sheds projects to find out more and link up, and the hope is that the different sheds will all share their resources, skills and knowledge to help one other with projects and learning.

St Neots Man Cave will start with sessions on Tuesdays from 9am-1pm and on Thursdays, from 1pm-5pm.

There have already been a lot of requests since the launch event for some evening and weekend sessions which the group are hoping to achieve once more members join up.
