A care home in St Ives has been celebrating 40 years in the care sector by raising £1,000 for a local charity with a daring fundraiser.

Three team members from Care UK’s Field Lodge, on London Road, have taken their dedication to fundraising to another – very high – level by choosing to do a bungee jump to raise money for Caring Together.

The fundraiser is part of a range of activities and fundraising events the team at Field Lodge hosted to mark Care UK’s 40th anniversary, with the organisation aiming to collectively raise £40,000 to give back to local communities, charities, and organisations across the country.

The bungee jump saw Field Lodge’s lifestyle lead, Sam Shepherd, domestic, Sam Fanthom and deputy nanager, Donna Johnson, plunge 160 feet from a crane at Battersea Park, London.

Speaking about the experience, Donna said: “None of us had ever done a bungee jump before, so thought this was an excellent opportunity to do something new and in honour of an amazing cause. I was absolutely petrified leading up to the jump, but it was an incredible experience!”

Linda Martinez, home manager at Field Lodge, said: “We’ve had a wonderful time celebrating Care UK’s anniversary with a range of fun activities to help raise money for Caring Together– we’re especially proud of Sam, Sam and Donna for taking part in such a bold fundraiser and helping us raise such a great amount.

“Here at Field Lodge, we value the connections we have with local groups and charities around us who help provide new and exciting opportunities for the residents, so we’re always looking for ways we can give back.

“It’s been wonderful to be part of something so special and I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the fundraising – especially to our brave trio!”
