CROWDS turned out in force for the arrival of The Minden Band of the Queen’s Division in Ramsey on Sunday.

More than 600 people came to watch the band perform as part of the Royal British Legion’s 90th anniversary celebrations and raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

The Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Hugh Duberly, attended the event at The Camp, while there were performances from the Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps – a particular hit with the crowds – Sutherland Pipes and Drums and Peterborough Highland Pipeband.

Visitors were also treated to a rifles re-enactment display and Scottish country dancing, and there were food stalls, trade stands and a bar for guests to enjoy.

Community fundraiser Adele Richmond said the total raised more than 200 for the Poppy Appeal, and that she hoped the event could be repeated next year.

“Everything went really well and we have had great feedback from people about the day.

“The highlight was the pipes and the drums playing together, and the end, when we had everyone in the arena together. We’d like to thank all the volunteers and groups who contributed to the day, and especially the Ramsey 1940s committee - without them we couldn’t have held the event.”
