A BLAZE which destroyed a car on the slip road from the A1 to Brampton was started accidentally.

Two crews from Huntingdon fire station were called to the scene between Brampton and Buckden at 11.40pm on New Year’s Eve.

A driver who was returning from a party at Buckden village Hall said he saw the vehicle at 12.20pm. David Kemp said: “There was a car there on the slip road, burnt out and the fire engine had arrived.”

Crews used two hose reels and a dry powder extinguisher to put out the fire and returned to their station by 1.55am.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said the matter was not being investigated by police.
