The Huntingdonshire Philharmonic Orchestra is ending its concert season with a magnificent finale in Ely Cathedral.

Under the baton of celebrated conductor Adrian Brown, the orchestra is teaming up with members of five other choirs to perform the majestic Te Deum by Berlioz.

Billed as a Jubilee concert, the evening opens with Benjamin Britten’s atmospheric arrangement of the National Anthem, which is often heard at the Proms.

This is followed by Elgar’s Coronation Ode, which includes the composer’s original version of Land of Hope and Glory.

Berlioz’ awe-inspiring Te Deum provides the grand finale which is full of dramatic contrasts, with the impressive opening chords setting the tone for a series of choruses on a grand scale.

The final chorus builds up to a climax that rings out like the tolling of a huge bell and leads to a triumphant ending featuring brass and organ.

On this illustrious occasion the Hunts Phil is joined by the St Ives Choral Society, Swavesey Community Choir, members of Bedford choir, the Boys’ Choir of All Saints Church, Northampton, Cottenham Village College Choir and members of Bromley Orchestra.

Orchestra spokesman, Jenny Robertshaw, told The Hunts Post: “The Te Deum is an important work which is not often heard.

“We are delighted to link up together for this joint performance in the magnificent setting of Ely Cathedral.”

INFORMATION: The concert takes place on July 7 in Ely Cathedral at 7.30pm. Tickets 10-25 available from Ely Cathedral Box Office, by contacting 01353 660349, from https://tickets.elycathedral.org or on the door.
