POLICE issue warning to cyclists on the guided busway after spate of thefts in two months.

Four bikes have been stolen from cycle racks at Longstanton and another at Fen Drayton.

Sergeant Paul Rogerson said: “We are working with our partners to raise awareness of this type of crime and prevent further offences, but my team and I are noticing the more expensive bikes are being left with very inexpensive, poor quality locks.

“We support safe cycling and would encourage more people to use their bikes, but I really don’t want them to be victims of crime so I’d urge them to invest in a suitable lock.

“There are simple steps people can take to reduce the chance of having their bike stolen, such as registering their bike on Immobilise and locking their bike to an immovable object and placing the D lock through the wheel and frame.

“We are committed to tackling crime on the busway and will deal robustly with those caught stealing.”

Cambridgeshire police is targeting cycle crime as part of its Get Closer campaign which aims to target certain crime trends identified through crime data analysis.
