Pupils at St John’s Primary School got out their spades to help the Huntingdon mayor dig a hole for the latest addition to their garden.
The schoolchildren and Councillor Bill Hensley planted an apple tree in the frosty early years’ outdoor area on Monday morning. The tree was presented to the school by the Oxmoor Community Action Group for winning a poster competition held to raise awareness about the safety of animals around Bonfire Night.
Headteacher Kate Lund said: “All of the schools in the area took part in the poster competition and there were winners from each school but we were the overall winners.
“The winning poster was designed by Deean Crespillo, 10, who was presented with her award at the Coneygear Park Fireworks Night.”
