Jonathan Djanogly has been re-elected as Huntingdon’s MP with an increased majority and the big losers on the night were the Liberal Democrats whose share of the vote was down by 21.1 per cent.
Mr Djanogly said he was “delighted and honoured” to have been re-elected. He went on to thank his wife and all his helpers and supporters. The surprise of the night was that Labour’s Dr Nik Johnson came in second place, with 18.3 per cent of the vote - increasing Labour’s share of the vote in Huntingdonshire by 7.3 per cent on the last election in 2010. UKIP came in third place with a 10.9 per cent increase in share on 2010.
The Lib Dems’ Rod Cantrill polled just 4,375 votes knocking him into fourth place. The Greens managed just 2,178.
Mr Djanogly said: “Huntingdon is a great place to live and work - there are some challenges but I believe we have the drive and the motivation to take our district forward. I will give it my best efforts over the next parliament.”
Result:
Conservative - 29,652
Labour - 10,248
UKIP - 9,473
Lib Dem - 4,375
Green - 2,178
