St Ives Rotary Club’s Christmas appeal saw more than 150 shoeboxes, each packed full of gifts and essentials, join a consignment of aid destined for Moldova.
The boxes were festively wrapped by each donor and carefully filled to suit a particular recipient - from new born babies to aged grandparents.
Rotarian Moira Penney was overwhelmed by the response and confirmed that this was the club’s best-ever year.
In particular she thanked St Ivo Sixth Form for their 60 boxes, the Hemingford Brownies, The Bridge Club, the St Ives Inner Wheel and the friends and members of the Rotary Club of St Ives, who all did their bit.
She said: “It is a nice thought, that our efforts here will have a direct impact on so many people in Moldova, one of the poorest countries in Europe, and perhaps go towards making Christmas that bit more special. We would especially like to thank Mim Gosling and Tracey Reagan at The St Ivo School and all at the Hemmingford Brownies.”
