Arsonists set fire to a pile of rubbish at a former RAF base on Monday evening.
A crew and water carrier from Ramsey were called to a fire in the open on the former RAF base in Upwood at about 6.30pm.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “A large quantity of rubbish, including household white goods, rubber and wooden pallets, was on fire.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and jets to extinguish the fire. A second fire was discovered close by in a disused building and this was also extinguished.”
Crews remained at the scene until 8pm.
An investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was deliberate. Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
