Zane Harrison, 21, and Danny Armstrong, 24, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm at Peterborough Crown Court on June 1 and were handed sentences of four years and eight months and three years respectively.

The court heard how the four victims were celebrating at a first birthday party in Great Northern Street, Huntingdon on August 23 last year when they stepped out for a cigarette.

Harrison of Dunnock Way, in St Ives and Armstrong of Bernard Road, in Brampton, approached the men and used a wooden bat to beat them in a violent and unprovoked attack.

The men were left with a number of injuries including fractures to the eye socket and jaw.

Detective Constable Tom Nuttall, from the Huntingdon Serious Crime Team, said: “We will not tolerate people who behave in this way in Huntingdon.

“This was an unprovoked attack by violent offenders against a family celebrating their child’s first birthday.

“I hope the lengthy sentences given to Harrison and Armstrong will demonstrate the commitment by the police and the Crown Prosecution Service to bring offenders to justice.”
