A pub which sparked social media campaigns to save it has received a prestigious award from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Members from CAMRA have chosen the Falcon pub, in Market Square, Huntingdon to become its Pub of the Year.
Licensee Paul Hepworth said: “We are very pleased that we have won the award and so grateful to all those that have supported us. It has been a lot of hard work but the building itself is lovely and that helps.”
The Falcon, which is believed to be Oliver Cromwell’s recruiting centre, was closed by its owners the Spirit Group in 2008 and was placed on Huntingdonshire District Council’s ‘at risk register’ in 2010.
It was rescued when Paul and Alyson Hepworth took over and reopened the pub at the end of 2014.
Paul Moorhouse from CAMRA said: “CAMRA gives these annual awards to the pubs with the best combination of good real ales and ciders, style, service, community focus and atmosphere.”
