The charity hosted a Pokemon party on August 22 and more than 3,000 fans of the Pokemon Go smart phone game turned out to catch characters at the charity’s 52-acre site near Godmanchester.

Sarah Etherington, digital communications officer, was overwhelmed by the public’s response.

She said: “We noticed that our site is a hot spot for Pokémon Go, so we thought it would be fun to open our doors for an evening and invite families to have a go.

“The reaction was amazing; over 3,000 visitors of all ages came along. We’ve already had some fantastic feedback and lots of requests to do it again.”

Families enjoyed a barbecue and late-night opening of the charity’s gift shop at the centre, raising more than £3,700 to care for the thousands of animals waiting for their forever home.
