A £1.1million hotel is set to open its doors in Huntingdon early next month after undergoing a renovation.
Pub and hotel chain JD Wetherspoon will welcome its first guests to the 22-bedroom hotel from October 4, as a part of the Sandford House pub, in George Street.
Manager Sarah Hemingway said: “The new 22-bedroom hotel is a wonderful addition to the outlet and we are confident that it will also be a great addition to the Huntingdon community. We look forward to welcoming guests to Sandford House.”
The hotel, which has created 11 new jobs for the town, is in a separate stand-alone purpose-built premises, set behind the pub, with rooms on the ground and first floors.
It features one family, 12 twin and eight double rooms, as well as one room suitable for people with disabilities, including wet-room facilities.
To involve the community in the refurbishment of the building, Stukeley Meadows Community Primary School pupils were asked to create works of art which will be displayed in the bedrooms and hallway.
The Grade II listed pub building was once called Sandford House, where Charles Sandford Windover set up home with his wife and children.
He was the son of a coach maker in Grantham, Lincolnshire, who came to Huntingdon to work at the flourishing ‘carriage manufactory’ of FC Armstrong, next to Sandford House.
