Racing fans flocked to St Ives on Saturday to enjoy the return of the annual Mobility Scooter Grand Prix.
The event, back for its second running, was held in Market Hill and saw more than 30 people try their hands at racing mobility scooters around a challenging course in a time trial event.
There was also a golf buggy race and a children’s scooter race to enjoy at the event, which was organised by the St Ives Town Team.
Held to raise awareness of mobility issues, the town team also wanted to hold a fun event to support Huntingdon Shopmobility, a charity which has faced a cut in its funding.
The mayor of St Ives, Councillor Phil Pope, was on hand to present trophies and also demonstrated his driving skills as he beat the ‘STIV’ – Huntingdonshire’s answer to Top Gear’s Stig - in a golf buggy race.
The STIV also set a quick time in the mobility scooter time trial of 26 seconds, which seemed unbeatable until 14-year-old Karl Sutton managed to take the trophy with a time of 24 seconds.
A spokesman for the town team said: “We wish to thank all those who took part and the following organisations for supporting this event: Huntingdon Shopmobility, St Ives (Hunts) Golf Club, Steven Eagell Toyota, Terrys Heel Bar, Lloyds Pharmacy, Skaters and St Ives Town Council.”
