Firefighters have issued a warning after a member of the public waded into a river in a bid to rescue a stranded foal.
Crews from Huntingdon and Cambridge were called to Offord Cluny shortly before 8.30pm on Sunday following reports that a foal had become separated from its herd.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Specialist in-water crews and animal rescue crews entered the water in dry suits and rescued the foal by attaching a halter to it and guiding it back to the river bank where it was returned to its herd.”
Crews were called to the scene after a member of the public had entered the water in an attempt to rescue the foal.
Station commander Paul Clarke said: “It is important to remind people of the dangers of the water and whilst we understand how important animals are to people we would urge members of the public not to enter waterways to try and rescue animals but to call us straight away.”
